Swedish
Massage
Swedish
massage is used to speed the return of un-oxygenated
blood and toxins from one's extremities. Swedish massage
stimulates
the skin and nervous system by using long strokes, kneading,
friction,
tapping and shaking motions. While soothing one's nerves
themselves,
Swedish massage produces a positive effect on all systems
of the body.
Deep
Tissue Massage
Most
patients seeking massage complain about "knots"
within
specific areas or muscles of their body. "Knots"
commonly occur
when muscles contract for a long period of time causing
a lack of
blood flow and oxygen to a specific area. As a result,
these muscles
may become shortened and ineffective in moving and supporting
the body.
Deep tissue massage is used to increase circulation,
soften hardened
tissue, lengthen and relax the affected muscle. Deep
tissue massage
helps release muscle contractions that contribute to
postural imbalances
and pain.
Myofascial
Massage
The
fascia tissue is the connective tissue that surrounds
and wraps every
muscle, bone, organ, tissue and cell of the human body.
The fascia tissue
is often referred to as the "Universal environment
for life." Imbalances in one's
posture and loss of range of motion can occur when the
fascia tissue becomes
hardened, inflexible, shortened or unmoving due to injury,
stress or aging.
Myofascial massage frees the long-time restrictions
of these tissues through
slow, deep, intense and effective techniques designed
to re-establish balance
within this connective tissue matrix.
Neuromuscular
Massage
Neuromuscular
Massage Therapy (NMT) is the science of re-establishing
balance between the muscular and nervous systems through
the manipulation
of the soft tissues (muscles, tendons & connective
tissue). NMT techniques
identify and eliminate "trigger points" within
one's body. Trigger points are
specific areas of tissue in which hypersensitivity is
focused, thus causing
pain and dysfunction throughout one's body.
NMT techniques address:
- The
lack of blood supply to soft tissues
- Trigger
points
- Pressure
on a nerve by soft tissue cartilage or bone
- The
imbalance of the muscular system through faulty movement
patterns
